Natural Hazards

One card per hazard type. Click one for its risk-rating scale — a Low→Extreme table (like the NIWA fire danger and NZ Avalanche scales) defining the conditions and thresholds that put an area at each level — plus the signs to look for on the ground and the technical-advice source trail behind every threshold.

These scales are draft pending a named technical adviser's review. The science behind each threshold is cited and its standing stated; what has not been reviewed is AWL's translation of that science into five operating levels. The largest outstanding item is a scoped engagement with GNS Science / Earth Sciences New Zealand — their SLIDE programme (Chris Massey, Chief Scientist) authored most of the landslide and rockfall sources cited here, and their RoARS rockfall tool is expressly restricted to qualified engineering geologists, which makes it the natural basis for that engagement.
